Fun and in good shape

The course didn't have any rough. The difference between the rough and the fairway was that the grass wasn't green. The fairway was in excellent condition though as was most of the greens and tee boxes. The entire staff at the facility is extremely friendly.

Good Course

Understand that actually Venetian bay is considered “private” however, you can play it as a “member for the day”. I played Venetian Bay 4/18. The course was in decent shape, not outstanding but not poor either. There is absolutely no rough, the only difference between the fairways and the “rough” is the fairways are greener. The greens are a bit slow, one person in my foursome described them as “average” speed. For those that have not played Venetian bay, the course is not all that difficult (see comment about the rough above). The par 5’s are short, the longest is 487 yards (from the white tees). Hole # 8’s green was torn up by vandalism (4x4 doing donuts on it) so they have set up a temporary green about 40 yards or so in front of the normal green. Given the hole was 324 from the white tees, it makes the hole very short and could be drivable for some. The green is obviously fairway, so putting is difficult and the green is extremely small. The course is trying to bring it back, doesn’t look all that bad actually but not sure how long it will take them to get it up to standards.

Course Ratings

Pros
The course is picturesque, not really any trouble out there unless you hit a real bad shot. Nice clubhouse, great service.
Cons
None really any cons unless you think all courses should have some sort of rough, which I do. There is no penalty for wayward shots off the fairway.

Pros
Greens and fairways roll true and are now very lush. Tee boxes are flat and full with one exception.

Not a pleasant experience

From the start this morning they ran out of range balls and had to go scoop them from the water. Needless to say I didn't get the opportunity to warm up. The one positive was the practice green, which was in good shape. The tee boxes on every hole were horrible. They all were kept right in the middle of divot city. One hole's tee box was actually a rounded hill, like a crown. The greens were ok for the most part. The greens were also very fast. The fairways were in descent shape with mixed grass types. There was only one spot on the course to refill or get water. A water fountain was out of order on the course, and we saw the cart girl twice. At the turn, the snack bar was shut down. The layout was challenging, so that was a positive.

Like Most Courses, this course is hurting

Beginning March 8th, the course will be aerified. During that time, they will close nine holes at a time. Right now, the course is really hurting for some warm weather. The greens are dry and really fast, but are rolling pretty true with minimal inhibitions. The Tee boxes were ok, but not great as was the fairway. There is really no distinction between the fairway and the rough as the grass is the same height. The only separation is the palm trees. The rate is a little high right now in my opinion, $28 with a cart for a 1:30 tee time on the weekend, for a city course that isn't in great shape. However, once the summer rates hit, that will drop. It is still a good course to practice on, and pretty wide open.

What a deal

On Saturday Feb 13th we played this course. Rate was $48 and included all you can play, breakfast, hot dog and sodas at the turn, free lunch and range balls. This course was in good shape. Considering the fact that we got an inch or more of rain, the course was in solid shape with the usual exceptions of puddling like most courses. Definitely a great deal if you can get out soon.

Great Shape considering the weather

Played this course on February 6th and considering the erratic weather we have had in Florida, this course is in great shape! The downside as with many Florida courses is the significant amount of ball marks on all the greens. I have long been someone who thinks that courses who do all they can to encourage people to fix their ball marks, but at the end of the day, send someone around to fix ball marks if people don't. I know of atleast a handful of putts affected by ballmarks in our round. All that being said though, the course was a lot of fun, challenging, and in great shape.

Wide Open

Course was in great shape considering the lack of rain we have had over the past few months. As usual the wind makes for a difficult round, but it is a great course to work on your accuracy. On most holes, if you aren't in the fairway, it is a tough play back in.
