Sandy greens at the "landing"

Mallards landing is owned by the City of Melbourne and like all municipality's their struggling to maintain this course. We had a day of wind and rain this last week and we played Saturday 3-13/ the fairways are hard and so is the greens. Theyare trying hard. Hope the city doesn't give up on the course !!

Like Most Courses, this course is hurting

Beginning March 8th, the course will be aerified. During that time, they will close nine holes at a time. Right now, the course is really hurting for some warm weather. The greens are dry and really fast, but are rolling pretty true with minimal inhibitions. The Tee boxes were ok, but not great as was the fairway. There is really no distinction between the fairway and the rough as the grass is the same height. The only separation is the palm trees. The rate is a little high right now in my opinion, $28 with a cart for a 1:30 tee time on the weekend, for a city course that isn't in great shape. However, once the summer rates hit, that will drop. It is still a good course to practice on, and pretty wide open.

Good practice course.

The course is usually in fairly good condition. The fairways are almost always the best feature of the course. The grass is always plush and thick, but there is very little difference between the fairway and the rough. The tee boxes were recently remodeled about 6 months ago and in the winter they looked great with the rye grass. However, now they are dry, dirt, and in terrible condition, they are redoing almost every single tee box. All in all though this course is pretty easy, and a very good alternative to a driving range for the reasonable cost.

Course Ratings

Pros
Very inexpensive, cost around $22 including cart for 18 holes.

Fun Municipal Course

This course is a great course to practice on. The price is reasonable, there are always tee times available, and walkers are allowed. They just did a renovation of all the tee boxes and as of 12/15/08 they were open. Great course to spend an afternoon on. Not much in the way of a driving range, but that is what playing the course is for.
